Combining Bulldozing and Forestry Mulching
Many food plot projects benefit from using both forestry mulching and
bulldozing.
For example, forestry mulching may be used first to remove heavy brush
and smaller vegetation, making the property easier to evaluate and
access. A bulldozer can then remove selected stumps, larger trees, root
systems, or other obstacles that would interfere with planting.
In other situations, a bulldozer may complete the primary clearing and
grading, while a forestry mulcher cleans the surrounding edges, opens
travel corridors, removes remaining vegetation, and gives the plot a
more finished appearance.
Using both machines allows us to match the equipment to the task instead
of trying to force one method to handle every condition.

Choosing the Best Method for Your Property
Our process begins by listening to the property owner.
Some landowners want a lightly cleared wildlife opening with minimal
disturbance. Others want a smooth, clean plot that can be planted and
maintained with a tractor. Some want to preserve selected trees, while
others need complete stump removal and grading. The intended crop,
equipment access, terrain, drainage, budget, and long-term management
plan all influence the best approach.
After evaluating the property and understanding the landowner's goals,
we develop a practical plan that may involve forestry mulching,
bulldozing, or both.

At Central Alabama Land Services, we do not believe every food plot
should be approached the same way. We use the method — or combination of
methods — that best supports the property owner's goals and produces a
food plot that is functional, maintainable, and built for long-term
success.
